Here's how the Direct Vent system works

Fresh air used for combustion is piped from the outdoors directly into the burner of the furnace or boiler. No interior air is utilized in the process. Exhaust emissions are piped out through a vent on the side of the house no larger than a dinner plate, eliminating the need for a chimney. The stainless steel insulated vent pipe is safe to the touch and has a zero clearance feature. This means it can be installed through a wood structure.
